The Summer is associated with the Fire Element. The heat generated by summer helps us relax. One of acupuncture points on the Fire Element is called ’Relax and Joy’ – what a fantastic point to help someone who cannot experience that heat and the relaxing effect it has.
As the days become warmer and brighter, we look forward to the new growth of spring. The Wood element, which has been at rest, storing and concentrating its energy under a winter blanket, now bursts forth with new buds and new life piercing Earth’s crust. Wood in spring initiates birth.
Life starts with the Water Element. The flow and exchange of fluids in our mother’s womb creates our life. Water forms 71% of the Earth’s surface. The human body is made up of 60% water in males and 55% in females. The brain is about 85% water.
Autumn is here! (sometimes we may feel it is Winter already but looking at nature tells us that we have more to go before we reach Winter). After the seasons of growth (Spring) maturity (Summer) and harvest (Late Summer) the leaves of the trees and plants fall and die.
Late Summer is an additional Season (the Fifth Season) that the Ancient Chinese observed existed in nature. It is no longer Summer – it when the days shorten and the evenings are heavy with haze. So if you feel it is no longer Summer and not yet Autumn, we are in Late Summer.
