My name is Declan Rothwell and I have been practising Classical Five Element Acupuncture for over 30 years in Dublin, Ireland. This is a very effective and unique style of Chinese Acupuncture which directly addresses the cause of the illness. Over that time, I have successfully treated patients with arthritis, back pain, stress, infertility (see here), anxiety/depression, headaches, migraines, digestive problems… this list is not exhaustive… it’s a very effective system of medicine! In addition, GPs and Consultants are referring patients for treatment. My Acupuncture Clinic is in Clontarf, 3 miles from Dublin City Centre.
My own back story was that I hurt my back and broke my leg in the same incident whilst playing rugby. My leg healed quickly but my back didn’t. I tried medication, physio.. and nothing really changed. I decided to try Classical Five Element Acupuncture and exclusively spoke about my back issues – I was mad keen to get back on the rugby pitch! After the first few treatments, I didn’t notice any change in my back but my energy was better. I had never mentioned to my practitioner about energy being an issue, nor thought I was energy deficient! After a few more treatments, I felt my mood improve – again, I had not mentioned anything about mood nor did I feel my mood needed a lift – who knew?!!
Then, my back improved substantially to a point where I could have greater confidence lifting things, moving, turning and not being in pain – great! I was astounded by the changes to my body, mind and spirit and my experience inspired me to train to become a Classical Five Element Acupuncturist, Teacher and then founding a College in Ireland to teach others. It has been one of the biggest blessings (and a life saver!) of my life to discover this ancient and very effective medicine.
I am currently serving as the President of the College of Five Element Acupuncture here in Ireland.

My biographical details
Declan Rothwell has a B.Sc.(Hons) from Trinity College, Dublin and graduated from the College of Traditional Acupuncture (UK) in 1996 with his Licentiate in Acupuncture (Lic. Ac.). Declan has been practicing ever since in Dublin. Declan continued post graduate work with Prof JR and JB Worsley after graduation. JR Worsley was a Master of Five Element Acupuncture and set up the first Acupuncture College in the Western World in 1963 in the UK. He was the foremost practitioner and teacher in the West of this style of acupuncture and taught thousands of students and treated thousands of patients to great effect before his passing in 2003.
